Frequently Asked Questions
Much like trying on a new outfit or slipping on a fresh pair of shoes, popping on a new pair of prescription glasses can be an exciting experience as you discover how your look will evolve.
Of course, just as clothes and shoes need to be ‘worn in’ before they can be truly appreciated, new eyewear, too, requires a period of adjustment. But don’t worry, this phase is completely normal, and soon you’ll wonder how you ever lived without your new glasses.
Adjusting to your new prescription glasses can take up to two weeks of constant wear as your eyes and brain adapt to the lenses. Refrain from wearing your previous/old prescription during this time, only the new prescription.
Following this period, it’s worth checking in with your optician to ensure your eyes have correctly adapted to your new glasses. If you’re having issues, it might be that your eyes and/or glasses require further assessment.
It is worth noting that this timeframe might differ slightly if your prescription has drastically altered or you’ve been prescribed any of the following:
- Your first pair of prescription glasses
- A change to progressive lenses
- Bifocal lenses
- Varifocal lenses
Your eyes are an important part of your health. Most people rely on their eyes to see and make sense of the world around them. But some eye diseases can lead to vision loss, so it is important to identify and treat eye diseases as early as possible. You should get your eyes checked as often as your health care provider recommends it, or if you have any new vision problems. And just as it is important to keep your body healthy, you also need to keep your eyes healthy.
The frequency of your appointments depends on your visual health. If you don’t wear contacts or glasses, then you should schedule appointments every two years. People who wear corrective lenses or who are over the age of 60 should visit annually. More frequent checkups might be needed for certain health conditions, such as diabetes, or other eye diseases.
